Mission Statement

St. Boniface is a Roman Catholic Church ministering to the urban Louisville community since 1836. We are a community formed by the word of God, the Sacraments and the tradition of the Church. We strive to be a catalyst for positive change in our neighborhood. St. Boniface is uniquely positioned to serve the needs of the entire community from youth to elders. We put our faith into action through a variety of social outreach programs. In these efforts, we strive to be a refuge for those in need and offer hope to our surrounding community.

Established 1836

Pentecost
11th of May, 2008

“Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.” John 20:19-23

Jesus gives the Holy Spirit so that disciples can take up his own mission: “As the Father has sent me, so I send you” (gospel). That mission is to proclaim the Gospel to all the world (see first reading). It is the Spirit who transforms us into who we need to be to fulfill Jesus’ mission: the one Body of Christ created from diverse members and blessed with different gifts (see second reading). - Living Liturgy™, Pentecost 2008

Pentecost Sunday

Today’s Focus: Spirit for the Common Good

We humans always seem to want to be something other than what we are, either because we don’t recognize our own unique contribution to life, or another’s gift holds more glitter. Still, life needs each of us for what we offer, whether or not we recognize the gifts we have. - Living the Word: Scriptures Reflections for Sundays and Holy Days, Sixth Pentecost 2008

Stewardship A Lifetime of Opportunity, Responsibility, Accountability

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different works but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.” I Corinthians 12:4-7

Each of us has been given unique talents to share with others. Time and treasure are similar for everyone—they only differ in amounts. The gifts of our talents are the most personal aspect of our stewardship.

Question of the Week

In what areas do I find it particularly difficult to forgive? What might Jesus say to me about this?

Bicentennial Moment

Bishop Peter Joseph Lavialle died on May 11, 1867, after serving as 3rd bishop of the diocese for only 2 years. Lavialle had served the Louisville diocese as a priest since 1844. He was pastor of St. Louis Church and then president of St. Mary’s College. During the Civil War he worked in the battlefields dressing wounds and praying with soldiers. The Holy Father twice asked him to be Bishop of Savannah, and he twice refused. He was consecrated as the Bishop of Louisville on September 24, 1865.

Catholic Missions Collection

This weekend, our parish will take up the collection for mission activities here in the United States and in the poorest faith communities in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and elsewhere. In 1882, this collection sent one of its first grants to the new and struggling Diocese of Bardstown, which later became our Archdiocese of Louisville. This is our opportunity to give back to those in need. Please be generous.

Always give without remembering and always receive without forgetting. ~ Brian Tracy
