The Ordinary Time Prayers 2006

(Sunday 1st to 20th in Ordinary Time)

Prayer for 24th Sunday

Father in heaven. Creator of all, look down upon us in our moment of need, for you alone are the source of our peace. Bring us to the dignity which distinguishes the poor in spirit and show us how great is “the call to serve”. That we may share in the peace of Christ who offered his life in the service of all.. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Prayer for 23rd Sunday

Lord our God, in you, justice and mercy meet. With unparallel love you have saved us from death and drawn us into the circle of your life. Open our eyes to the wonders this life sets before us, that we may serve you free from fear and address you as God our Father. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Prayer for 22th Sunday

Lord God of power and might, nothing is good which is against your will, and all is of value which comes from your hand. Place in our hearts a desire to please you and fill our minds with insight into love, so that every thought may grow in wisdom and all our efforts may be filled with your peace.

Prayer for 21th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Father, help us to seek the values that will bring us lasting joy in this changing world. In our desire for what you promise make us one in mind and heart. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Prayer for 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall be ever in my mouth. Let my soul glory in the Lord; the lowly will hear me and be glad. Glorify the Lord with me, let us together extol God’s name. I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Look to him that you might be radiant with joy, and your faces may not blush with shame. When the poor one called out, the Lord heard, and from all his distress he saved him.
Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.

Prayer for 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall be ever in my mouth. Let my soul glory in the Lord; the lowly will hear me and be glad. Glorify the Lord with me, let us together extol God's name. I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.

Prayer for Transfiguration of the Lord

The Lord is King, the Most High over all the earth.
The Lord is King; let the earth rejoice; let the many islands be glad. Clouds and darkness are round about him;
justice and judgment are the foundation of his throne. The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his justice; all peoples see his glory.
The Lord is King, the Most High over all the earth.

Prayer for 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The hand of the Lord feeds us; he answers all our needs.
The eyes of all look hopefully to you, and you give them their food in due season;
You open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is just in all ways and holy in all his works. The Lord is near to all who call upon him in truth.
The hand of the Lord feeds us; he answers all our needs.

Prayer for 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Father, let the gift of your life continue to grow in us, drawing us from death to faith, hope, and love. Keep us alive in Christ Jesus. Keep us watchful in prayer and true to his teaching till your glory is revealed in us. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Prayer for 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation.
Kindness and truth shall meet; justice and peace shall kiss.
Truth shall spring out of the earth, and justice shall look down from heaven.
Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation. Psalm 85

Prayer for 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Father, in the rising of your son, death gives birth to new life. The sufferings he endured restored hope to a fallen world. Let sin never ensnare us with empty promises of passing joy. Make us one with you always, so that our joy may be holy, and our love may give life. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen

Prayer for 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Father, you call your children to walk in the light of Christ. Free us from darkness and keep us in the radiance of truth. We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen

Prayer for 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time

You walk along our shoreline where land meets unknown sea. We hear your voice of power, "Now come and follow me. And if you still will follow through storm and wave and shoal, then I will make you fishers but of the human soul." You call us, Christ, to gather the people of the earth. We cannot fish for only those lives we think have worth. We spread your net of gospel across the water's face, our boat a common shelter for all found by your grace.Amen

Prayer for Body & Blood of Christ

Lord Jesus Christ, you gave us the eucharist as the memorial of your suffering and death. May our worship of this sacrament of your body and blood help us to experience the salvation you won for us and the peace of the kingdom where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Prayer for Trinity

Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; to God who is, who was, and who is to come. Amen

Prayer for Pentecost

Come, Holy Spirit, fill my heart with your holy gifts.
Let my weakness be penetrated with your strength this very day that I may fulfill the duties of my state in life conscientiously, that I may do what is right and just.
me charity be such as to offend no one and hurt no one's feelings; so generous as to pardon sincerely any wrong done to me. Amen

Prayer for Ascension

God our Father, make us joyful in the Ascension of your Son Jesus Christ. May we follow him into the new creation, for his Ascension is our glory and hope. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives, and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Prayer for 8th Sunday

Lord, guide the course of world events and give your church the joy and peace of serving you in freedom. We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen

Prayer for 7th Sunday

O Christ, the healer, we have come to pray for health, to plead for friends. How can we fail to be restored, when reached by love that never ends? How strong, O Lord, are our desires, how weak our knowledge of ourselves! Release in us those healing truths unconscious pride resists or shelves. Grant that we all, made one in faith, in your community may find the wholeness that, enriching us all, shall reach the whole of humankind.

Amen

Prayer for 6th Sunday

When I am troubled, I turn to you, and you are there.
We are so blessed when we are forgiven; God calls us "innocent," and the spirit is given in good faith.
I came forward and owned my own failings.
I came clean, and you took away the shame that had kept me a prisoner
When I am troubled, I turn to you, and you are there.

Amen

Prayer for 5th Sunday

Bless, O God, those whom you have called to heal others and to bring comfort where there is pain. Strengthen them with your spirit; and give them steady hands and soothing voices. By their example, help us all to promote healing of bodies and spirits through the music that we sing and play. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for 4th Sunday

Lord our God, help us to love you with all our hearts and to love all people as you love them. Grant this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for 3rd Sunday

Remember that your compassion, O Lord, and your love are from of old.
In your kindness remember me, because of your goodness, O Lord.

Psalm 25:4-5, 6-7, 8-9

Prayer for 2nd Sunday

Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

I have waited, waited for the Lord, and he stooped toward me and heard my cry.
And he put a new song into my mouth, a hymn to our God.
Sacrifice or offering you wished not, but ears open to obedience you gave me.
Holocausts or sin-offerings you sought not; then said I, “Behold I come.”
“In the written scroll it is prescribed for me, to do your will,
O my God, is my delight, and your law is within my heart!”
I announced your justice in the vast assembly; I did not restrain my lips, as you, O Lord, know.
Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

Psalm 40:2, 4, 7-8, 8-9, 10

Prayer for Epiphany

Father of light, unchanging God, today you reveal to people of faith the resplendent fact of the word made flesh. Your light is strong, your love is near; draw us beyond the limits which this world imposes, to the life where your spirit makes all life complete.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
