Nativity Academy at Saint Boniface

Our Mission

Nativity Academy at St. Boniface is a private middle school, in the Catholic tradition. It uses a proven educational model to provide an excellent education, both in and beyond the classroom, for at-risk children in Metro Louisville communities.

Its mission is to evoke a passion for learning in its students so that each child may reach his/her full potential.

Our Curriculum

Our academic program is based on the curriculum of the Archdiocese of Louisville which prepares students for admission to Catholic secondary schools. In addition to the core academic subjects, our experiential learning component includes field trips, workshops, and guest speakers. At Nativity Academy, all students take the following subjects: language arts, mathematics, religion, foreign languages, physical education, science, social studies, literature, health, computer skills, and the arts. The extended day schedule allows for co-curricular activities, study hall, and tutoring. A mandatory summer program provides continuity in adademic studies and additional opportunities in sports, arts and crafts, and visits to the broader civic community.

The Nativity Model

All students will study English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Religion, Physical Education, Art, Music, Spanish and an age-appropriate Skills and Issues class.

The Academy

Nativity Academy at St. Boniface provides a safe, structured environment for inner-city young men and women in the middle grades. By admitting only 6th & 7th graders in its first year and limiting its enrollment to 12 girls and 12 boys each year, the Academy will ultimately serve 72 students in grades 6, 7 and 8.

Nativity Academy is a private middle school in the Catholic tradition. It seeks to impart to its students the very best spiritual ideals, moral values, knowledge, learning skills, discipline, character formation and personal care.

The staff is a mix of full-time teachers and committed volunteers. They provide unwavering motivation and support and encourage each student to realize his or her full human potential as a productive member of society and as a leader and role model in family and community. Each student receives the opportunity for a middle school education which will enable him or her to pursue an excellent secondary education leading to college and a professional career.

What Does Faith-Based Mean?

As a faith-based school, Nativity Academy recognizes that each person is created by God and is an unique reflection of God's presence in the world. It seeks to motivate and encourage students through the Judeo-Christian values or respect for all people, reverence for the created world, and the universal human desire for peace and justice. Because it is governed by a collaboration of Roman Catholic organizations, Nativity Academy at St. Boniface teaches formal religion classes within the Catholic tradition. While all students will take Catholic religion classes and participate in ecumenical and Catholic prayer services, students are encouraged to regularly attend and actively participate in the church of their families' denomination. Nativity Academy seeks to support and promote students' growth as persons of faith with strong moral principles.

Admission Process

Students are selected by school staff for admission based on completion of application forms, testing, a family interview, and participation in a summer program. Nativity Academy targets families whose children are fully eligible for the federal meal program.

Student Schedule

Nativity Academy at St. Boniface is an extended day and an extended year school. Because of this extended day, the Academy provides students with breakfast, lunch and a snack. In addition, students are required to attend Saturday sessions and a summer program which supplement the academic program and co-curricular activities.

Non-Discrimination Policy

Nativity Academy at St. Boniface will not discriminate against otherwise qualified applicants on the basis of sex, race, religion, nationality or ethnic origin in the administered programs.
